On November 6, 2003 The Oregonian reported that "when representatives of many faiths gather Saturday at Oregon's new Hindu temple, each will light one of several wicks in a traditional Indian oil lamp, signifying solidarity in the light of an infinite being. It will be a celebration in which temple supporters, most of them raised in India's Hindu culture, welcome followers of the many religions in their new home in the United States, said Bharat Naik, a temple trustee. 'It will be a big spiritual party,' he said. 'Everybody is invited.' Representatives of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Portland; the Dharma Rain Zen Center in Southeast Portland; the Muslim community; Native American religious leaders; and the Vedanta Society of Portland, another branch of Hinduism, are among those expected to attend the event, Naik said."
