A Chicago area Burmese association is trying to raise money for those affected by the disaster in Myanmar, where the official death toll from the cyclone has passed 28,000.

In Elmhurst, members of the Burmese Buddhist Association gathered to pray for their countrymen and to raise funds to help.

One Burmese monk who lives in the Chicago area says he has not been able to get information about his relatives.

"I'm trying again and again to contact with my family, but I cannot do it," monk Ashin Ukkamsa said.
