On November 7, 2005 the Laramie Boomerang reported, "Muslims from all over Wyoming came to the Islamic Center of Laramie to celebrate the Eid al-Fitr holiday on Thursday... Laramie has the largest Muslim community in the state, primarily because students and professors from the University of Wyoming bolster the population. The dynamic means that there are dozens of cultural traditions represented at the Laramie Islamic Center and different cultural expressions of the same faith... Ali Hamodi recently arrived in Laramie from Baghdad, Iraq, to begin his freshman year at UW. He is used to celebrating Eid al-Fitr with his family and Iraqi friends and not with Turks, Sudanese, Palestinians, Indians, Malaysians and Americans... The default language for the Wyoming Eid al-Fitr celebration was English, but Islam was the binding agent. Just as a Mexican Catholic celebrates Christmas in a different, but similar, way that a Greek Orthodox does, an Iraqi and a Mauritanian are connected by Eid al-Fitr."
