EEOC Reports Increase in Religious Discrimination Cases Post-9/11

On December 29, 2003 the Pittsburgh Business Times reported that finding a balance between respecting religious diversity in the workplace and conducting business is becoming an important endeavor for employers. "The events of Sept. 11, 2001, have raised the awareness of religion in the workplace... Since the terrorist attacks, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Washington, D.C., has received more than 800 complaints nationwide from individuals of Muslim or Middle Eastern descent who allege they have been discharged or harassed because of their religious orientation."
