On March 17, 2003 The Fresno Bee reported that "the growth of congregations in Fresno [CA] is also coming from religions other than Christianity. The Fresno Betsuin Buddhist Temple on Kern Street recently bought a 7-acre parcel on Alluvial Avenue near Willow Avenue. It has been downtown for more than a century... A new Sikh temple is being built on 14 acres of vineyard south of Fresno near Highway 99 and a $5 million Central California Islamic Center is being constructed on about 5 acres on Nees near Maple Avenue."
