On October 2, 2004 The Plain Dealer reported, "Members of a Sikh faction locked out of their temple after recent violent episodes turned Friday to their religion's tradition of nonviolence - fasting and prayer - to try to reopen the building... The fast is in protest of the temporary closing of the temple, a move that is intended to soothe tempers in a power struggle... [One] faction [is] trying to return the temple on Tarbell Avenue to its roots by requiring leaders to be devout and dress as the prophets ordered centuries ago, with turbans and beards. The other faction, which has control of the temple and made the decision to lock the doors, does not wear the traditional dress of Sikh leaders."
