On August 2, 2005 the Courier-Post reported, "It was Sunday morning and local Sikhs were holding a typical religious service, as they have since 1987. Their gurdwara, or house of worship, is a plain-looking building... The group, the Guru Nanak Sikh Society of Delaware Valley, wants to continue their services but in a new home: a traditional dome-topped building to be erected on a wooded tract along Fox Run Road, about a half-mile away. The group is scheduled to formally present its plans during Wednesday's planning board meeting. In the process, members hope to allay the concerns of neighbors who fear increased noise and traffic and the loss of open space. The group wants to build a 20,600-square-foot building on 18 acres. The site, a former pig farm, is surrounded by horse farms and a few homes and is a short distance from Deptford High School. The area is zoned for low-density residential properties, which, under township code, includes places of worship, such as churches and synagogues. 'We have been part of this community for 18 years and we have grown up in this community. I don't know what the fear is,' said Harjinder Singh, 52, a trustee for the Guru Nanak Sikh Society of the Delaware Valley. Some residents, however, have vowed to fight the proposal."
