On November 10, 2001, The Times-Picayune reported that while "singing 'God Bless America' and 'Hatikvah,' the Israeli national anthem, scores of New Orleans-area Jews this week ceremonially marked the beginning of construction of a new $9 million Jewish community center in Metairie, a joint effort that spanned the area's several Jewish denominations."
