On July 16, 2006 the Tehran Times reported, "The chairman of the World Forum for the Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, Ayatollah Mohammad-Ali Taskhiri, announced here on Saturday that an international charter of women’s rights in Islamic society is to be prepared. In an address to the First International Conference on Women’s Rights and Responsibilities in an Islamic System, which is currently underway at the conference hall of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), he said, 'We are trying to prepare a charter which will be accepted by women scholars of the Islamic world.' He mentioned the fact that Sunday is the birth anniversary of Hazrat Fatima (SA) and said the issue of women’s rights is being studied at the conference. 'Unfortunately, the West is making efforts to impose its culture on other cultures, so we hope that the charter will be ready soon to be presented to the world.' The two-day conference has been organized to present viewpoints of an Islamic system on women’s rights, to facilitate communication among women scholars of the Islamic world, to strengthen social, political, and scientific ties between various women’s organizations, and to help establish a united stance to fight against the global arrogance."
