On February 26, 2004 New York Newsday reported, "A community affairs cop in Queens is receiving an outpouring of support after he was accused of accepting kickbacks and placed on modified duty. As Internal Affairs Bureau investigators go door-to-door on Jamaica and Liberty avenues in Richmond Hill and Ozone Park looking for evidence of wrong-doing, civic leaders say allegations against the 102nd Precinct officer, Det. Rudy Prashad, stem from jealously... Community leaders say Prashad was instrumental in bridging the gap between the growing Guyanese community, Sikhs and longtime residents in the area. They said he would take calls on his cell phone at any hour. Prashad is also well known in the Guyanese community, often at the side of visiting dignitaries."
