On December 27, 2002 The Birmingham News reported that the "First Baptist Church of Dadeville [AL]... sued... two self-described witches, [wolf breeders Joseph and Deborah Wilson],... after they refused to sell a building the church wants to buy for an expansion... The lawsuit is based on an alleged easement violation. It's a strange irony: the Baptist church shares a wall, and an easement, with the witches... the Wilsons wouldn't sell. After that, life became even more difficult for them in this rural county where 38 percent of the residents are Baptist and very few people appreciate their paganism or their love of the wolves they keep on 40 acres near the small town of New Site."
