On October 30, 2001 The Stamford Advocate reported, "Council to admit two Muslim organizations, change name." The article noted, "To help promote understanding and tolerance after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the Council of Churches and Synagogues of Southwestern Connecticut has admitted two Muslim organizations and intends to change its name to reflect the move." Representatives from the three faith communities signed a statement: "Called to love God and our neighbors as a faith-based community, we recognize that collectively we can accomplish what independently we cannot. The council works with and on behalf of all communities of faith to foster religious cooperation and mutual respect by addressing and meeting needs for justice, peace and charity."
