On November 4, 2000, the Omaha World-Herald reported that the Nebraska office of the Christian Coalition was asked on Friday not to distribute its voting guide. Alan Jacobsen, 1st District congressional candidate and former Gov. Ben Nelson feel that their platforms were misrepresented in the guide. Mike Avery, a member of the state board of the Christian Coalition, said the misrepresentations were an attempt "to persuade people of faith to vote for Republicans." He also added that the mistakes were not intentional. The guides incorrectly state that Jacobsen supports the adoption of children by homosexual couples and that he is "undecided" on a constitutional amendment to ban flag-burning. The guide misspells his name as well as 2nd District congressional candidate Shelley Kiel's name. Nelson's positions on abortion, the death tax, and prescription drug benefits for Medicare were also misrepresented.
