On January 13, 2003 the Fresno Bee reported that "Sikhs in Fresno [CA] ended 48 hours of continuous reading of their Holy Book on Sunday, bringing to a close the annual celebration of the birthday of Guru Gobind Singh... About 1,200 participated, gathering for the reading and prayers at the Sikh temple on Dakota Avenue, near First Street... The event culminated Sunday afternoon with hymns, a vegetarian meal and the reciting of the history of Guru Gobind Singh's life... The birthday of Guru Gobind Singh, who lived from 1666 to 1708, is the second-most significant date celebrated by Sikhs, surpassed only by commemoration of the religion's birthdate in April, said Gajan Singh, treasurer of the Sikh Association of Fresno."
