On June 13, 2006 the Toronto Sun reported, "Muslims across the GTA [Greater Toronto Area] say they're fearful of crossing the border during this busy travel season because of extensive security checks by U.S. agents searching for terrorists...

Muslim community members said they've faced background checks at the border since 9/11, but the scrutiny has intensified following the arrests of 17 GTA men this month.

Farouk's Rexdale Blvd. mosque was forced to install cameras, hire security patrols and summon police after 28 glass windows were smashed by vandals following the arrests of the suspects. There have been no arrests in the incident, which has left the mosque's windows boarded up with plywood until next week.

'We are being targeted even though we are not guilty of anything,' [said Omar Farouk of the International Muslims Organization of Toronto] yesterday. 'People are concerned about possible repercussions.'"
