California Group Documents Violent Incidents against Arab-Americans

On May 22, 2003 The Associated Press reported that "the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee documented 865 violent incidents after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks against Arab-Americans or those perceived to be Arab or Muslim, according to a report released by the group Thursday... Some 700 violent incidents, ranging from vandalism to murder, were documented in the nine weeks following the attacks. The report said another 165 violent incidents occurred between Jan. 1, 2002, and October 11, 2002... The group also received 800 reports of employment discrimination from September 2001 to September 2002, and 80 reports of discrimination on airplanes, in which people who appeared Middle Eastern or Asian were asked to leave the plane even after passing security checks."
