On June 23, 2003 the Tri Valley Herald reported that "the city of Lathrop [CA] has passed a resolution deploring hatred and crimes targeting members of the Sikh community... Lathrop's Sikhs asked city officials for such a resolution after reportedly suffering racial and religious attacks after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. No one was physically injured, but the comments caused emotional pain, Sikh community member Sonny Dhaliwal said... The resolution approved by the Lathrop City Council this month states the city will not tolerate acts of hatred and crimes toward the Sikh community, 'just as the city would oppose acts of hatred and crimes toward any people.'"
