On July 18, 2004 Ann Arbor News reported, "When Zen Buddhist Temple members gather for Sunday services at their big Victorian house on Packard Street in Ann Arbor, they sometimes fill three first-floor rooms and spill into the hallway. Not enough space for worship, much less for meeting rooms and children's classrooms. This summer, however, the temple will begin a multiphase expansion into the former bicycle store next door. In June, the temple paid New Boston resident James Sullivan $335,000 for the 1958 building. Ann Arbor Cyclery moved several doors north, leaving 2,000 square feet on its first floor and about 800 below for the temple's expansion. Ann Arbor architect Lorri Sipes, a temple member, is leading the redesign. The group will spend about $150,000 on the project, with some work done by members and the rest by yet-to-be-hired contractors. Part of the plan includes making the temple more accessible to the Ann Arbor community, said senior member Koho Joe Lukomski."
