Interfaith House, a residential community created five years ago on the Brown University campus to encourage dialogue and understanding between students of different faiths, has been tapped to receive the Touro Synagogue Foundation's Teitz Award for Religious Freedom and Tolerance in a ceremony tonight at Brown's List building at 64 College Street.
The award was actually announced in August, when the historic Newport synagogue held its annual reading of George Washington's letter to the congregation, but the formal presentation was pushed back until now because most of the house's residents were away on vacation.
The presentation will take place after a panel discussion at 7 p.m. featuring five prominent Brown alums currently working in the field of religion who will discuss religion in the academy and the larger challenges of religious literacy and co-existence. The panel is to be moderated by Missy Daniel, editor of PBS's Religion and Ethics Newsweekly.
