A team of local Sikh youth has been dispatched to Haiti this week to assist in the relief efforts there, as victims of the devastating earthquake two weeks ago continue to suffer from a lack of food, shelter and medical assistance. The group, three men and three women are going to assist in the preparation and distribution of food at a currently active relief camp.

In connection with the Haiti relief aid fundraising campaign by the BC Sikh Community, which raised over $1.5 million, fundraiser organizers coordinated with the United Sikhs -an international humanitarian organization that has setup a food distribution camp and is run by volunteers from Canada and the United States.  The group from BC left from Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara on Wednesday, January 27, after a special prayer service.
