The National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of India has asked the government to take up the issue of the seven Iranian Baha’i leaders expected to come up for trial in Tehran on January 12 with the Iranians.

Holding a press conference at the Baha’i House on Madhavrao Scindia Marg, prominent members of the community expressed concern over the continued persecution of the Baha’i’s in Iran.

Maja Daruwalla, Director, Commonwealth Rights Initiative, said, “This trial has been planned to harass and intimidate. It is one more incident in a long line of persecution of the community in Iran. Our country has a long record of pluralism and tolerance — we must speak out.”
