On June 4, 2006 CityTV reported, "The foiled terror plot in Toronto has already resulted in a backlash against Muslim communities across the country. In Calgary on Friday night, a group of nine men and women in their twenties banged on the doors and window of the Al-Madinah Islamic Centre before opening the front door to yell and swear at seven worshippers gathered for a late prayer.

In Toronto on Saturday night, vandals smashed 30 windows at a mosque and damaged nearby cars. Toronto police called a joint press conference with Muslim leaders on Sunday to appeal for calm, saying that such attacks would be dealt with seriously and harshly by the law. The Muslim leaders also expressed fears their community would become victims of reprisal attacks."
