On November 20, 2004 the Associated Press reported, "Hate crimes against Muslims, particularly in Europe, should be combatted as vigorously as anti-Semitic behavior, officials have told a European-Mediterranean conference. The call comes after a wave of attacks on ethnic and religious communities in Europe, many in The Netherlands, and a perception among Islamic-majority states, such as Egypt, that assaults on Muslims were not being tackled as seriously as those on Jews. The annual conference of the Organization for Security Cooperation in Europe and its six Mediterranean partners - Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia - has focused on security cooperation, tolerance and immigration, particularly illegal migration from North Africa to Europe. The two-day conference finishes in this Red Sea resort Friday."
