American Bodhi Center to be Built Near Houston

On September 25, 2003 Waller County [TX] News Citizen reported that the Texas Buddhist Association, a non-profit organization founded in 1978 that has more than 1,500 members, is planning to build a temple and retreat center in Waller County (near Houston). Located on 515 acres, the American Bodhi Center will include "the Grand Buddha Hall, Meditation Hall, Meditation Retreat Forest, Buddhist Live-in Community Quarters, Administration Building, Buddhist College, Community Activities Building, Outdoor Activity and Camping Areas, Multimedia Publishing House, Zen Garden, Memorial Park and Organic Garden." The Rev. Hung I, abbott of Jade Buddha Temple in Houston and vice president of the Texas Buddhist Association, "said the Texas Buddhist Association strives to adapt Buddhism to modern American life while maintaining respect for traditional Buddhist practice. 'We are creating a new "Texas" traditions for Texas Buddhists,' he said."
