NEW DELHI: Police imposed a curfew Wednesday in parts of Agra, the northern Indian city that is home to the Taj Mahal, and advised tourists and residents to stay indoors after angry mobs set fire to 20 vehicles and blocked roads, officials said.

All schools and colleges in the city were closed for three days, local government spokesman J.N. Chamber told reporters, adding that the rioting — sparked by the deaths of four men hit by a truck — was now under control.

Ten people — six police and four firefighters — were injured and one civilian was shot dead in the rioting, he said.
