Before, services were held at members' homes, schools and firehouses. It was in 1968 that Temple Beth Ahm finally got a home to call its own.

Throughout the years, the sprawling facility at 550 Lloyd Road underwent several interior changes. Then in 1998, a fire damaged most of the temple.

It was rebuilt.

The building still stands and has become a Conservative Jewish icon in the Bayshore area and beyond. Residents of towns from Aberdeen and Manalapan to Old Bridge and Cranbury visit the temple to pray, learn and socialize.

On Sunday, a ceremony was held commemorating the temple's 40th anniversary.

The celebration, which started Friday night with a Shabbat dinner and Kabbalat Shabbat services, also honored the completion of the new Ohav Shalom Chapel and Library. The affair ended Sunday with a service in the sanctuary.
