Mission

Founded in 1996, Education as Transformation (EasT) is an international organization that works with colleges, universities, K-12 schools and related institutions to explore the impact of religious diversity on education and identify strategies for addressing this diversity. Based at Wellesley College, the organization is also dedicated to exploring the role of spirituality in educational institutions, particularly its relationship to pedagogy, the cultivation of values, moral and ethical development, and the fostering of global learning communities and responsible global citizens.

Activities and Outreach

EasT has sponsored and co-sponsored numerous conferences and workshops and has collaborated with several professional organizations. EasT also provides consulting services for colleges, universities, and independent schools that wish to provide better support for growing religious diversity among students. One example of their consultation work is a program they co-designed with the University of Waterloo to train students on leading dialogue about religion and spirituality. The group has many publications on the role of religion and spirituality in higher education including various articles, a book series, and an electronic newsletter. Their current newsletter is available online. They also co-produced a Religious Diversity Kit with NAPSA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education). In addition to a video and study guide, the kit includes sections on designing multi-faith celebrations, creating multi-faith spaces, counseling students in a multi-religious context, and more. Educators and others interested in the topic of religion and spirituality in higher education can communicate with each other by joining the online Education and Spirituality Network on the EasT webpage.
