Faith Lutheran Church in Cambridge celebrates anniversary
Like the neighborhood that surrounds it, Faith Lutheran Church has undergone many changes in the last century. Originally named Lutherska Augustana Kyrkan, or Augustana Lutheran Church, it was known for many years as the “Swedish Church.” This original sign, with worship times listed in Swedish, was once posted outside the building. Worship services at the church were held entirely in Swedish until the 1930s. http://pluralism.org">This original fresco, which portrays Jesus as the Good Shepherd, also reflects the cultural heritage of the early church founders; the words inscribed in gold in the arch are written in Swedish. The text is taken from Psalm 23, verse 1: “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.” http://pluralism.org">
